Pipe Reserve Trail Pedestrian Crossing

LOCAL WIN!

We know how popular the Syndal – Heatherdale Pipe Reserve Trail is for pedestrians and cyclists. That is why we’re making it easier and safer to access it from Highbury Road in Burwood East.

Glendal Primary School student Vincent personally wrote to me requesting a pedestrian crossing to help kids like himself cross the road safely at the intersections of Highbury, Seven Oaks and Newhaven Roads in Burwood East. He was excited about the construction of a new off-road shared bike path, however, without a safe designated pedestrian crossing, was worried it was a safety issue for both himself and other riders.

I'm excited to announce that the Andrews Labor Government allocated $870,000 in the 2021/22 State Budget to construct the Highbury Road Pedestrian Crossing, making Vincent's wish a reality!

We’re installing new pedestrian operated signals between Sevenoaks Road and Newhaven Road to connect both sides of the trail, making it safer and easier for the local community to access a number of nearby schools and early learning centres.

Works commenced in early-2023 and are expected to be completed by mid-2023, weather permitting.

When construction started on a new signalised pedestrian crossing, I joined Vincent, the Minister for Roads and Roads Safety, Melissa Horne MP, and the Member for Glen Waverley, John Mullahy MP, to see the progress of the crossing.
